Happy B Corp Month!

We are celebrating our second B Corp Month as a Certified B Corp.

B Corps believe there is a better path to a better world - one of action and purpose, inspiration and community. This movement is powered by an emerging generation of people using business as a force for good.

This B Corp Month, we’re celebrating our work alongside thousands of other B Corps around the world.

HIGHLIGHTS

WHAT IS A B CORP?

The B in B Corp stands for Benefit. Certified B Corporations, or B Corps, are companies verified by B Lab to meet high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

WHY BE A B CORP?

B Corps experience faster growth in turnover and employee headcount, higher expectations about future growth, and greater levels of employee retention, engagement and diversity.

NUGREEN CERTIFIED B CORP

In November 2023, we joined the fast-growing community of B Corporations in the UK and worldwide by officially becoming a Certified B Corporation.

As a B Corp, we are counted among businesses that are leading a global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy.

Today business, tomorrow the world. Every business has the chance to make a difference through our actions, but it takes energy to put change in motion.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR FOUNDER - CLARE ATKINSON

We chose to be certified because when I started the business, I wanted to find out who was "paving the way" in terms of organisational design and sustainable culture change, only to find there were a handful of different standards largely defined by scope 1 & 2 emission factors. Discovering B Corp and choosing to take on the challenge of the impact assessment seemed the best, most comprehensive way to design our business principles as a new business, measure our long-term impact and plan for a NetZero future of continuous measurable development.

The B Lab UK community is an affiliation of people who have managed to navigate the assessment process, which is no mean feat, but more importantly the community is a gathering of people committed to continuous improvement across all aspects of what it means to do business the right way. Everyone we have spoken with is focussed on paving the way to doing things differently, innovating and taking accountability. It is a positive culture to be around, especially in a world where getting to NetZero can seem like an unimaginably large task. We are proud to hold our certification and to be part of the community driving measurable change.

Our Impact Business Model is to reduce the costs and carbon associated with waste and resource use for our clients, and so far we achieved an average saving of £529 and 519kg CO2e for every tonne of clinical waste produced!

For all these reasons, we’re proud to be a part of #BCorpMonth.

This year, England is taking a big step towards improving commercial and national recycling rates through 'Simpler Recycling'. Although this is an action that needed to be taken, it has caught many businesses by surprise.

From 31st March 2025, businesses in England will need to arrange for the collection of glass, metal, plastic, paper and card, and food waste for recycling, as well as segregating at source. Segregation at source means having a different bin for each type of waste, but do not worry, you won't need to have 6 different recycling bins. The ideal set up will have a bin for glass, metal and plastic, a bin for paper and card, and a bin for food waste. Paper and card can go into the co-mingling too if your waste provider can support this.

If you do not already have recycling collected at your business, we advise finding a reputable waste contractor with a facility local to you, which will ensure keeping road miles as low as possible. You can also talk to your current waste contractor to see how they support this change.

Although a challenge for businesses, this is a much needed change to drive an increase in nationwide recycling rates and provide a better of picture of the composition of our waste. Reclaiming as many materials as possible will help us move towards a more circular economy. We have visited our local recycling facility and seen firsthand just how effective recycling can be.
