Spring has sprung!

We hope you all enjoyed your Easter break and the very sunny April we have been having. Up in Cumbria, the lambs have been finding their feet and serenading us with joyful bleats.

This month we have been celebrating Eid and Earth Day, as well as looking at how we can all make a difference at home by taking small steps towards sustainable travel. We hope you enjoy!

APRIL HIGHLIGHTS

EID MUBARAK!

Our Habiba El-Gharably observed Ramadan, and enjoyed celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with her family, and sharing the treats with the rest of the team.

SMALL STEPS: Active Travel

This month's Small Steps is all about ditching the car when you can, and making you and the environment healthier at the same time.

EARTH DAY

April 22nd saw the 55th year of Earth Day; an international day which empowers people and organisations to drive sustainable change.

Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr

Habiba observed Ramadan with us in the UK, and visited her family in Kuwait to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr together. Here is what she had to say on her experience:

'Now Ramadan has come to an end and the Eid celebrations have finished, I just want to take a moment to appreciate the incredible support I received from NuGreen and my colleagues during this special time. Managing daily tasks while fasting can be challenging, but the understanding and flexibility from my team made it so much easier. From adjusting my schedule to simply checking in on how I was doing, these small acts of kindness truly meant a lot to me.

It is a great reminder that an inclusive workplace is not just about policies, it is about people who genuinely care and that makes all the difference. I am grateful to be around an amazing team that values different cultures and traditions.

Eid Mubarak to everyone celebrating❤️'

We are very proud of Habiba's commitment, and glad she and her family enjoyed the festivities and delicious food!

WALKS, BIKES AND AUTOMOBILES

Active travel is becoming an increasingly important topic when looking to drive public health and climate initiatives, and for good reason. Opting to walk or cycle rather than driving, benefits your physical and mental health, as well as the environment. Don’t worry this is Small Steps, we are not asking you to completely ditch the car. It is not practical yet for many of us to completely switch from driving to walking or cycling, how would we do the weekly shop with a couple bickering toddlers if we had to walk all the way and carry the shop all the way back?
Whilst there is work being done on local community amenities, public and active transport and a mindset shift on shopping, what we can do is swap opt to walk or bike as and when we can. For example, could you walk the kids to school? Can you bike to the corner shop?

Cars contribute to poor air quality and greenhouse gas emissions, which leads to respiratory and cardiovascular illness. Whereas active travel leads to improved respiratory and cardiovascular health, it’s a win win! Even swapping the car for foot once a week will make a difference, remember, you have to start somewhere.

EARTH DAY

Earth Day has been happening each year since 1970, galvanising people to take responsibility and action for Planet Earth.

This year's Earth Day theme is "Our Power, Our Planet," focusing on the importance of renewable energy and the goal to triple clean electricity by 2030. It encourages communities to educate, advocate, and mobilise for renewable energy.
